Run a Lake County Case Lookup

A Lake County case lookup starts with a name, a business, an attorney, or a case number you already know. From there, pick the right trial court and case type, then use the public court docket tools to narrow things down. What you get is a snapshot. It may show a scheduled hearing without listing every filing in the court record. When you need an order, a judgment, or a certified copy, the lookup points you toward the register of actions or a request to the Lake County clerk for the full official history.

How to Search Cases by Name

The Colorado Judicial Branch Docket Search accepts an individual name, business name, attorney name, or attorney bar number. It is a free statewide calendar tool. A Lake County name search works best after the location is narrowed to the 5th Judicial District and Lake County. A date is required, plus at least one additional filter.

  1. Choose the 5th Judicial District, Lake County, and the court type or courthouse shown by the form.
  2. Select a date or date range, then choose individual, business, or attorney search.
  3. Enter the available name fields and run the search with the required second filter.
  4. Compare the court, case number, case class, and hearing details before accepting a match.

A broad name can return too much. Add the court, case class, or a shorter date range. Felony, probate, domestic, juvenile, water, and major civil matters generally begin in District Court. Misdemeanor, state traffic, small-claims, and county civil matters generally begin in County Court.

Lake County Case Lookup Fields

The Lake County case lookup form changes as location and search modes are selected. County and courthouse choices can load dependent options. The static page does not expose every later dropdown value in advance, so use the labels displayed during the live Lake County case lookup.

Search and clear are standard controls. A result is still a public calendar hit, not a document viewer. Use the case number from a sound match to reach the next record channel.

How to Search by Case Number

A Colorado case number combines the four-digit filing year, case-class letters, and a sequence. The general pattern is YYYY-CLASS-SEQUENCE. The public form places those parts in separate controls. Copy them from the citation, notice, pleading, or order when possible. Do not guess a class when the paperwork provides it.

A Lake County case-number search avoids many same-name problems. Enter the year, select the class, add the sequence, and keep Lake County selected. Then verify that the result identifies the expected District or County Court. One wrong digit or class can return nothing, even when the case exists.

Lake County Case Search Codes

Case-class letters point to both subject and forum. They are part of the identifier, not a status code. Lake County District Court commonly uses CR for District criminal, CV for District civil, DR for domestic relations, JV for juvenile, and PR for probate. Lake County Court uses classes such as M for misdemeanor, T for traffic, C for county civil, and S for small claims.

CR
District Court criminal matter, commonly a felony case.
CV or C
District civil or county civil, depending on the exact class.
M or T
County Court misdemeanor or state traffic matter.
DR, JV, or PR
Domestic relations, juvenile, or probate in District Court, with access limits possible.

The case number controls. A class can help choose the right court, but it does not reveal the outcome. Juvenile and some domestic or probate material may not be remotely public.

What a Case Search Shows

The free Lake County case search is built around scheduled proceedings. A result can show the court and county, courthouse, division, hearing date, case number, case class and sequence, party or case caption, and a setting line. Calendar results may also include time, estimated duration, hearing type, location, appearance type, and courtroom.

Case numberThe filing year, class, and sequence used to identify the matter.
CaptionThe formal party-role heading or name associated with the public entry.
Court and divisionThe District or County Court and its assigned work unit.
SettingThe public hearing date and event label shown for the matter.
AppearanceIn person, virtual, telephone, or blank when the field is supplied.
DocumentsNot supplied as filed images through the free calendar search.

Some fields are not promised on every row. A blank judge, courtroom, duration, or appearance method should be treated as unavailable, not inferred. Contact the clerk when that missing detail affects an imminent hearing.

Lake County Search Has No Filings

The free Lake County case lookup does not open complaints, judgments, orders, or other filed images. Repeated searches will not turn a setting result into a case file. The chronological product is a register of actions, or ROA. It can summarize filings, minute orders, motions, settings, rulings, and disposition events.

Colorado identifies approved commercial vendors that provide real-time ROA access by name or case number for covered civil, water, small-claims, domestic, felony, misdemeanor, and traffic matters. Access costs money. The state warns that vendor data can omit cases or contain errors and is not the official record. The Lake County Combined Court clerk remains the source of official and certified material.

Three products: The calendar shows when, the ROA indexes what happened, and the filed document supplies the operative text.

County vs Statewide Case Search

Lake County does not operate a separate public state-court case portal. The free Judicial Branch search is statewide but can be filtered to Lake County. The Combined Court clerk supplies the local official-record layer. Leadville Municipal Court is separate and should be contacted for city ordinance cases because complete city coverage is not promised in the state tools.

Choose the Lake County case search channel based on the desired product. A person seeking the next hearing can start free. A person who needs the words of an order must request that order.

Missing Lake County Case Results

A missing Lake County case result does not prove that no case exists. The Lake County case search may use the wrong court, wrong case class, a spelling variant, or an overly narrow date. The file may also be older and off site, or its public access may be limited. Start by checking every identifier against the source document.

Broaden the date, keep Lake County selected, and try the exact case-number parts. For a party search, test the formal name appearing on the case. If the matter still does not appear, call the Combined Court at 719-293-8100 or the Clerk of Court at 719-293-8105. Ask whether the file requires a record request or off-site retrieval. The official Lake County resources page provides another local routing point.

Note: Older files may carry actual retrieval costs, so confirm the process before sending payment or traveling to the courthouse.

Lake County Record Request Fallback

Use the Colorado Record/Document Request Form when a Lake County case lookup cannot supply the needed item. Choose Lake County, add the case number and year if known, identify the party, and select the exact product. Options include an ROA, complaint or information, disposition or sentence order, civil judgment items, probate items, protection orders, tickets, and other documents.

The form says ordinary responses arrive within three business days unless circumstances require more time. Suppressed cases, juvenile and probate records, or protected information may require government-issued photo identification. Copies, name searches, certification, research, redaction, and retrieval can carry the fees listed by the Judicial Branch.

Lake County ROA Search Results

A Lake County ROA is a chronological case index. Its header can contain the case number, court and county, division, caption, filing date, and status. Party and attorney blocks identify roles. Later rows can index pleadings, service, minute orders, motions, settings, rulings, and the final disposition.

Criminal records may add charges, bond, plea, and sentence information. Civil records may add claims, judgments, satisfaction, and post-judgment writs. An index entry is not the underlying paper. For example, a motion is a request and the later order is the ruling. A disposition hearing is a setting, not proof of the signed disposition.

Lake County Municipal Case Lookup

Leadville ordinance citations belong to Leadville Municipal Court. No official public name or citation search was located for that court. Read the ticket for the named court and date, then call the Municipal Court Clerk at 719-656-0637 or request the municipal file at City Hall, 800 Harrison Avenue.

Do not assume the state payment or docket tool covers every municipal matter. State traffic, misdemeanor, felony, and civil cases arising in Leadville use Lake County Court or District Court instead. Twin Lakes is a census-designated place, not an incorporated municipality, and has no separate municipal court.

Restricted Cases and Access Rules

Chief Justice Directive 05-01 governs public access to Lake County court records. Public access does not mean that every case or document is remotely visible. Colorado uses public, protected, restricted, suppressed, and sealed security levels. Protected material becomes public only after required redaction, while higher levels limit who may see it.

Juvenile and child-welfare matters are not ordinary public adult dockets. Some probate, family, and protection-order records also contain protected information. A sealed result may be absent or show little public detail. A clerk cannot override a sealing order in response to a routine request.

Lake County Official Case Record

The Clerk of Court at the Lake County Combined Court maintains District and County Court files. In-person inspection, a mailed Lake County case request to P.O. Box 55, email to LakeRecordsRequest@judicial.state.co.us, a call to 719-293-8100, and the statewide online request form are documented access channels. The current location page lists fax 719-293-7420. The court is at 505 Harrison Avenue in Leadville. Confirm counter hours and public-terminal availability before travel.

The elected Lake County Clerk and Recorder is a separate custodian at the same street address. That office handles deeds, elections, vehicles, and other county functions. It does not certify trial-court pleadings, judgments, or ROAs. Ask for the Combined Court clerk when a Lake County case search needs to become an official court-record request.

Lake County Restricted Search Steps

When the requester is a party or otherwise authorized, contact the court holding the case and explain the precise record needed. Be ready to provide the case number, party information, government photo ID, and any order or proof of authority the clerk requests. Access depends on the record’s status and the requester’s legal entitlement.

Do not treat a missing public result as evidence that a record was deleted. Sealing restricts public access but does not erase the court’s internal record. Use the Judicial Branch sealing resources for the proper Colorado process when the question concerns a person’s own case.
